Achieving and maintaining optimum health for your teeth and gums is our goal. We can provide periodontal cleanings and treatment, or refer you to one of our recommended specialists. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Patients with excellent oral health or with gingivitis ( inflammation of the gum tissue,) are seen on a six month basis. Visits consist of a medical history review, oral cancer screening, necessary dental imaging, a comprehensive examination by Dr. Solomon, and a thorough removal of accumulated calculus ( tartar) and plaque by our exceptionally skilled dental hygienists. In addition, our hygienists review recommendations to help you achieve an excellent level of home care and dietary choices that are best for your goal of achieving and maintaining a healthy mouth.

For patients diagnosed with periodontal disease, the above treatment is supplemented to help control your chronic dental infection. Periodontal disease involves inflammation of the gum tissue accompanied by bone loss around the teeth. Patients with mild periodontal disease may be treated in our office with procedures referred to as scaling and root planing. These procedures may require local anesthetic, and involve the removal of bacterial toxins that have taken up residence on the root surfaces of your teeth. Patients with moderate to severe periodontal disease may be referred to dental specialists called periodontists. Periodontists specialize in the treatment on more challenging disease, and utilize methods that may include laser or minor surgery to remove the chronic infection, and restore the gum tissue to maintainable health.

Patients that have required treatment for periodontal disease, continue to be at risk for infection and bone loss for the remainder of their lives. All periodontal patients are seen going forward, for periodontal maintenace procedures on a 3-4 month basis tailored to their individual response to care. Please call our office to schedule an examination to evaluate the health of you gum tissue and supporting bone.
